Bio-cultural frontiers at BIEA

In March 2014 I attended a conference on the topic of ‘bio-cultural frontiers’ at the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA) in Nairobi. With Henrietta Moore I presented a paper on the domesticated landscape of the Marakwet which seemed well received. The conference was well attended by a range of international and local scholars from across disciplines, including geography, anthropology, history, development studies, planning, law and archaeology with topics focusing on human and plant relations, human-animal relations, infrastructural development, issues of land and conservation and with regional sessions on northern Kenya and South Sudan.
